Principal Contractors for Restoration of Coroner’s Court
Stonewest NewsStonewest are delighted to have been appointed by principal contractor Kier Construction to restore the external facades of the former Magistrate’s and Coroner’s Courts for Livingstone Academy in Bournemouth. The external restoration of both buildings forms part of a transformation project to develop the country’s first state-of-the-art digital academy with a focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). The development presents a fantastic opportunity to introduce modern design to historic architecture and will become one of four schools within the Aspirations Academies Trust.
The portico of the Grade II* listed former Coroner’s Court that has stood empty since 2012 will be carefully cleaned. The eroded elements of the Coat of Arms will be re-carved in Base bed Portland stone, after first taking ‘squeaze’ moulds and creating and agreeing maquette models (see below).The building’s Portico steps will be re-pointed and any defective stone will be repaired or replaced. The 1960’s Magistrate’s Court that has stood empty for the same amount of time will see its Portland stone and granite cladding panels carefully cleaned and re-pointed with any defective elements replaced where necessary.
