Project Overview
Grade I* listed Theatre Royal in Covent Garden is the most recent in a line of four theatres which were built at the same location, with its current incarnation being built in 1812. The refurbishment of the 1812 Greek revival façade saw Stonewest appointed to undertake specialist works forming part of the £60m restoration project, instructed by the theatre’s owner, composer Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Key Successes
- Restoration and decoration to the stuccoed façades, cornice, capitals, column bases & portico.
- Repairs to high level brick work.
- Replacement stone to the entablature.
- Conservation of the Coat of Arms royal crest and ornate capitals.
- Gold leaf sign writing to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane sign.
- Removal and replacement of grills and rainwater pipes.
- External and internal York stone paving to Vinegar yard and the terrace.
- Supply and installation of York stone flooring to rotunda, foyer and Vinegar Yard.
- Decorative re-tiling in a number of areas, including a rest room used only when Her Majesty visits the theatre.
