Project Overview

The project involves the redevelopment of the 10-acre site in downtown Yangon, comprising of luxury apartments and offices. The centre piece will be the restored headquarters of the Burma Railway Company which is to be hotel for the Peninsula Group.

Stonewest (MYM) was initially awarded the Façade Strengthening Package in which the scope of works was structural repair to the retained façade.

Key Successes

  • Joint inspections with the engineer to develop elevation structural repair schedules.
  • Installation of Helifix crack stich and arch tie repairs in areas of localised failure.
  • Isolated repair of laterite and brick masonry.
  • Creation of new vertical and horizontal tie system.
  • Formation of expansion joints through the existing façade walls and installation of seismic expansion materials.
  • Survey, dismantling and rebuilding of 3 no. existing heritage walls.
