Project Overview
Kom Tong Hall is a historic building in Mid-Levels, Central. It was accorded a Grade I historic building status in 2009 by the Antiquities Advisory Board (AAB) and was later declared a monument in 2010.
The Hall was built in 1914 and was named after the former owner of the mansion, Ho Kom-tong, who was a younger brother of the prominent philanthropist Sir Robert Ho Tung. The Ho family was the first Chinese family permitted to live in the Mid-Levels in the early colonial period.
Stonewest (HK) were engaged as part of the regular maintenance cycle to conduct repairs as necessary to the historic fabric.
Key Successes
- Condition surveys prior to and upon completion.
- Repair of spalled concrete and defective plastering of the main building and Guard House area.
- Restoration and decoration to the façades, cornice, capitals, column bases & portico.
- Repair and repainting of metal railings.
- Restoration of defective timber door and windows.
