Case Study
Project Overview
Featuring a unique Italian Renaissance architectural style, the Grade III listed heritage mansion was originally a luxury home owned by barrister and magistrate William Ngar Tse Thomas Tam.
Built in 1929, the 90-year-old property today is considered as an exceptionally rare example of such a building in Hong Kong, and has been restored as part of a large scale luxury development.
Stonewest were initially engaged to advise on and carry out a range of cleaning exemplars to establish appropriate specifications to achieve the light touch desired level of cleaning. Stonewest were then instructed to conserve the facades by extensively cleaning and repairing the intricate stonework, including chimneys and carved embellishments, many of which had become obscured by pollution and eroded by years of weathering.
Key Successes
- Survey and dismantling of heritage timber floorboards before repair and reinstatement of original tongue and groove profile.
- Slab demolition and recasting, including application of waterproof membrane prior to timber reinstatement works.
- Supply and installation of new skirtings in matching timber material.
