Project Overview

The three buildings in the Central Government Offices (CGO) Complex were built post-war in three phases with the West Wing completed in 1959 and awarded Grade 1 status by the Antiquities Advisory Board in 2012.

Renovation works for the West Wing were undertaken to allow for the re-use of the building by the Department of Justice and law-related organizations.

Stonewest (HK) were appointed to carry out the restoration of the mosaic tiles, the key character defining element of the external façade.

Key Successes

  • Thermatech steam cleaning of the external façade to expose the original mosaic panels.
  • Joint inspections with the architect and engineer to develop elevation repair schedules.
  • Salvaging mosaic tiles for re-use.
  • Low pressure injection grouting & mechanical fixing of the existing panels to the existing concrete substrate.
  • Sampling and manufacture of new mosaic tiles to match existing.
  • Spalling repairing to concrete substrate.
  • Patch repair of mosaic tiles where required.
