Facade Restoration in High Holborn
Stonewest NewsHigh Holborn sits within London’s Bloomsbury Conservation area which is renowned for its beauty and interest. With its wonderfully diverse architecture and its interesting blend of residential, commercial and institutional buildings, it draws visitors in from around the world.
Stonewest has recently completed the restoration of the Grade II* listed 19-21 High Holborn, which forms part of The Gray’s Inn estate. The works included stripping many layers of paint off the front façade and steam cleaning associated façades. A hammer test survey was conducted to establish hollow render following which repairs including stitching fractures were completed. Toupret was then used to fill any fine cracks before the redecoration process commenced.
The Stonewest team also supplied and installed a new keystone to the passage way arch and new stone plinths completed the representation of the tired façade. To the rear of the passage arch, faux joints were also created and rubbed in to match the existing design.
It’s been a sizeable undertaking in a demanding location, but we’re delighted to have achieved such a magnificent finish.
