Somerset House – West Wing
Stonewest carried out tuck pointing to the Georgian brick facings to the rear elevation of this wing totaling 1000m2.
The works involved:
- Extensive trials were completed to ascertain the closest match of colour and style to the original specialist pointing technique and ultimately this fulfilled the wishes of the Client, Consultants and English Heritage.
- Voussoir gauged brick arches were rebuilt and window revels re-rendered and painted.
- All Portland stone dressings were chemically and abrasively paint stripped followed by repairs.
- In addition, masonry repairs to the road and river frontage elevations comprised pointing, stitching fractures and masonry indenting.
